NEW BUFFALO, MICHIGAN · CALENDAR OF EVENTS

New Buffalo Events Schedule (Calendar)

Every weekend in New Buffalo holds the opportunity for something new. We host a variety of special events throughout the year — from street festivals and blockbuster art shows to fireworks on the water and exciting sports like Great Lakes surfing. Check out our calendar of events for something happening of interest to you:

  • May - September 2010: Friday & Saturday Night Live - FREE Live entertainment for the whole family at the Corner of Whittaker and Merchant Street in downtown New Buffalo from 7pm-9pm each Friday & Saturday night during the summer (except when major events are scheduled downtown like 4th of July, Ship & Shore Fest, Harvest Fest).

  • May 15 - October 10, 2010: Open-Air European Farmers Market is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 10 at the corner of Red Arrow Highway and Lakeshore Road in New Buffalo (Skip's Restaurant Parking Lot). The market is the place for everything natural and created by artisans: produce, fresh-cut restaurant-grade steaks, art, jewelry, photography, breads, pastries, coffees, lattes, smoothies, concrete garden art, clothing, candles, soaps, flowers and so much more.
  • July 30 - Aug 1, 2010: Greek Fest (Friday from 5 - 11 p.m., Saturday from 4-11 p.m. and Sunday from noon until the food is gone.) The festival will be held on the grounds of the American Hellenic Center at 17760 Behner Road in New Buffalo.

  • August 7, 2010: Annual Corn & Sausage Roast at the New Buffalo Yacht Club, Live Music.

  • August 7, 2010: Third Coast Classic Skimboarding Contest at the City Beach

  • Aug. 8, 2010: Second Annual Great Lakes Grand Prix Boat Race from Michigan City to New Buffalo.

  • August 13-15, 2010: New Buffalo Ship & Shore Festival: Whittaker Street, which cuts through the heart of downtown New Buffalo, will be closed to vehicles but opened up to everyone in the community for arts, crafts, games, live music, and more. You can browse artwork from dozens of local artisans and crafters, or sample locally produced micro-brews at the beer tents. Wines from nearby Round Barn Winery and Free Run Cellars are perfect complements to the mouthwatering dishes prepared by our own local restaurants offering a wide range of cuisines from Mexican to Italian to Asian!

Kid-friendly events on Saturday and Sunday (August 13-15, 2010) include watermelon eating contests, ice-cream eating contests, and games. Adults are encouraged to "play" too! A volleyball tournament, skim-boarding contest, and 5K run are also planned for Saturday, August 14, 2010. Start either day with a visit to the New Buffalo Fire Department for their pancake and sausage breakfast.

Despite all the great day-time activities, the real highlights of the New Buffalo Ship & Shore Festival occur after dusk. Each year we hold a Lighted Boat Parade where participants transform their pleasure boats, cruisers, and yachts into floating creations that you have to see to believe. Our 2008 parade winner turned his 36-foot fishing boat into a floating Las Vegas - even Elvis made an appearance! Fireworks immediately follow the parade - lighting up the night sky and capping off a great summer weekend.

A donation of $5 is suggested for admission.

  • August 13-15, 2010: The Heritage Trail, US 12, Longest Garage Sale. Along US 12 from the State Line all the way to Detroit! Shop your way across the State, or just a few communities. Explore the towns and scenic countryside, and sample food along the way. From Dawn to Dusk.

  • August 21, 2010: 7th Annual Great Lakes Surf Luau at the City Beach & Third Coast Surf Shop

  • September 26, 2010: The 37th Annual Apple Cider Century in Three Oaks. Recreational 25, 50, 75 and 100-mile bicycle tour with safety and a fun time for all participants as our major concern. Advance registration is required by calling 269-756-3361

  • October 9, 2010: New Buffalo Harvest & Wine Fest takes place on Saturday, from noon to 10:00 p.m.

  • October 24, 2010: New Buffalo Halloween Parade & Trick or Treat. Parade steps off at 1pm @ North Thompson Street, trick or treat is scheduled 2:30 - 4:30 pm. For additional information, contact Bonnie Keefer @ (269) 469-3715
